The Southwestern Randolph Cougars lost against the Randleman Tigers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Southwestern Randolph fell 61-49 to Randleman. While losing is never fun, Southwestern Randolph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while Randleman is ranked 135th).
Southwestern Randolph lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nathan Ellis, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Robertson, who scored 13 points.
Randleman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyshaun Goldston led the charge by scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Goldston has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Cassidy, who scored six points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Southwestern Randolph's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Randleman, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Southwestern Randolph will head out on the road to face off against Eastern Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eastern Randolph knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Southwestern Randolph likes a good challenge. Randleman will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Uwharrie Charter on February 7th. Randleman knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight games -- so hopefully Uwharrie Charter likes a good challenge.
