After two games on the road, St. Michael's is heading back home. They will take on the Raton Tigers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Michael's will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Two weeks ago, St. Michael's got themselves on the board against Santa Fe Indian, but Santa Fe Indian never followed suit. They breezed by the Braves on the road to the tune of 54-0. St. Michael's pushed the score to 48-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Santa Fe Indian had no chance of recovering from.
Soren Annon went supernova for St. Michael's, rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also catching a touchdown. Lucas Gurule was another key contributor, gaining 54 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Raton walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 35-8 victory over Thoreau on the road. Considering Raton has won five contests by more than 24 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Raton relied on the efforts of Joseph Saenz, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown, and Cannon Walton, who rushed for 125 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Saenz was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards.
St. Michael's is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Raton, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: St. Michael's has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Raton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154.8 per game. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
