The Talawanda Brave will square off against the Eaton Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Talawanda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, it was close, but Talawanda sidestepped Harrison for a 4-3 victory.
Kylie Cobb made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paisley Kerby, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Hazel Cheatham, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Talawanda hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harrison struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, while Eaton put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Madison. The Eagles came out on top against the Mohawks by a score of 5-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mohawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Like Talawanda, Eaton also got a great game from a two-way player: Meredith Pieratt. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Pieratt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Pieratt wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julie Schrimper, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Schrimper has hit this season.
Eaton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Talawanda, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Eaton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Talawanda hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. It's a different story for Eaton, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Talawanda's hitters?
Talawanda was able to grind out a solid win over Eaton when the teams last played back in April of 2023, winning 9-4. Will the Brave repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
