The Sickles Gryphons will head out on the road to take on the Tampa Bay Tech Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Sickles focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
Sickles unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak. The game between Sickles and Cardinal Mooney wasn't particularly close, with Sickles falling 68-54. While losing is never fun, Sickles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Cardinal Mooney is ranked 16th).
Despite the defeat, Sickles got a solid performance out of Beckham Hockley, who scored 24 points. Hockley hasn't dropped below 15points for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Sharpe, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Tampa Bay Tech posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Middleton out 48-45. Winning may never get old, but Tampa Bay Tech sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Tampa Bay Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Azjannie Culberth led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Culberth continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Breanna Hartley was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Sickles' defeat dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Tampa Bay Tech, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Sickles was taken down by Tampa Bay Tech 58-11 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can Sickles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
