Basketball Recap: Jay Sets Scoring Season-High Against Winn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jay). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Winn Mavericks 85-33. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Jay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mikayla Garcia led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten boards. Garcia is becoming a predictor of Jay's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 15-1 (and 3-6 when she doesn't). Emmarie Baldwin was another key player, going 7 for 16 on her way to 19 points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Jay was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Jay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Winn, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-20.

Jay will take on Southwest Legacy at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Southwest Legacy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with six straight defeats, while Jay will come in with six straight victories. As for Winn, they will square off against Southside at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
