Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laurel). They put the hurt on the Freedom Area Bulldogs with a sharp 19-0 win on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
Laurel got a massive performance out of Ivy Pancher, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Pancher is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayci Lang, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.
Pancher wasn't the only one making solid contact: Laurel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The Spartans are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Laurel now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Freedom Area, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
Coincidentally, Laurel and Freedom Area will both be playing Aliquippa the next time they take the field. The Spartans will host the Quips at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Bulldogs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
