Elizabethton and Unicoi County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones will be playing in front of their home fans against the Unicoi County Blue Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Elizabethton's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
Elizabethton was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Johnson County on Monday. Elizabethton was the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Johnson County. The win continues a trend for the Fighting Cyclones in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won five in a row.
KATIE GRYDER made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. GRYDER was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other pitching news, EZZY BARR looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on SADIE WILLIAMS, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was ADRIAN HEADING, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Elizabethton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Unicoi County had already won five in a row dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Trailblazers.
Unicoi County pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Elizabethton, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Elizabethton couldn't quite get it done against Unicoi County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can Elizabethton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
