Hopkins County Central had lost nine games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-12 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Livingston Central Cardinals 18-4. The Storm's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brody Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Neilan Bruce was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Hopkins County Central is undefeated when Bruce posts two or more runs, but 0-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gaige Brasher, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Hopkins County Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Livingston Central only posted an OBP of .393.
As for Livingston Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.
On Livingston Central's side, Drew Hosick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was Hosick's first of the season. Jackson Duncan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hopkins County Central will host Heritage Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Storm are on a five-game streak of home losses, and the Warriors a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck. As for Livingston Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Calloway County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
