On Thursday, the Howard Wildcats faced the Sanford Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Howard fell 69-60 to Sanford. Howard's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Sanford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Khareem Hart led the charge by scoring 21 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hart has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zir Ellegood, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Howard's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Sanford, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Howard will square off against St. Elizabeth at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Elizabeth knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 games -- so hopefully Howard likes a good challenge. As for Sanford, they will head out on the road to challenge Salesianum at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Salesianum is on a three-game streak of home wins, Sanford a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
