Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Hickory Grove Christian Lions walked away with it. They walked away with a 34-27 win over Covenant Day on Friday. The victory was just what Hickory Grove Christian needed coming off of a 55-12 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hickory Grove Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gavin Thompson, who rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Anthony Hawkins also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Covenant Day still got an impressive performance from Will Andrews, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Hickory Grove Christian's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Covenant Day, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Hickory Grove Christian will head out on the road to face off against Asheville School (Independent) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Asheville School (Independent) is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. Covenant Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
