Softball Recap: Mundelein Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

After only one run in their last game, Mundelein made sure to put some runs up on the board against Highland Park on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Giants 10-1. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

Sophia Zepeda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 16 Ks.

At the plate, Mundelein let Kieley Tomas and Taylor Pyke run wild. Tomas went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Pyke went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Pyke a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Connelly, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Mundelein was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only posted a batting average of .160.

Mundelein pushed their record up to 21-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Highland Park, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

As of now, neither Mundelein nor the Giants have any future games scheduled.
