Northern Lakes recap September 17, 2013
Southview was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to third in Northern Lakes. The Cougars defeated Findlay 20-17 earlier in the week.
Springfield scaled the state rankings by moving to 332 from 457 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Blue Devils were able to make move up by topping Rossford 38-6.
Brian Utter put up the best numbers in passing as Maumee beat Start. He finished with a total of 18 completions for 204 yards and 3 touchdowns. Utter's favorite target this week was Zach Graven, who caught 5 passes for 61 yards.
Zach Fielder was the best wideout in the league this week as Napoleon defeated Rogers. Fielder tallied 5 receptions for 68 yards. Nate Rohrs helped Napoleon's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 41 yards.
Bryant Schlade was the most successful running back in Northern Lakes this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 109 yards as the Wildcats bested the Rams. Teammate Devon Armour added to the ground attack by rushing for 57 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Panthers' Utter and Zack Mathias have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Utter has thrown for 432 yards this season, while Mathias has 11 catches for 133 yards. Gus Dimmerling from Perrysburg leads the league in rushing with 270 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Springfield takes on Southview. As it stands, the Blue Devils are in first, while Jim Mayzes' team is in third.
Napoleon took down Rogers 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blake Dunbar threw for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 19 yards during the win.
