Basketball Recap: Martin's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

It was a good run, but Martin unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. The game between them and the Nixon Mustangs didn't end well, with the Martin Tigers falling 53-35. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 75-44 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Nixon to victory, but perhaps none more so than William Palumbo, who went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds. Palumbo is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Uli Torres, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Martin's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Nixon, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Martin has already played their next match (against Rio Grande City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Nixon will welcome Mission Veterans Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Nixon is facing Mission Veterans Memorial at the right time seeing as Mission Veterans Memorial is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
