The Glenvar Highlanders are on the road again on Monday and plays the Alleghany Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. Glenvar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Cougars are ranked 103rd).
Glenvar pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Salem.
Glenvar might have lost, but man, Brody Dawyot was a machine: he scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. Dawyot is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last four games he's played. Reed Hutchison was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Alleghany's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Floyd County by a score of 47-44. Alleghany has not had much luck with the Buffaloes recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Glenvar dropped their record down to 6-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Alleghany, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.
Glenvar came up short against the Cougars in their previous meeting on Wednesday, falling 77-68. Can Glenvar avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
