Potomac Senior has gone a perfect 8-0 against Freedom recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Potomac Senior turned things around against Gar-Field on Tuesday. They never let the Red Wolves get on the board and left with a 27-0 victory. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ericka Hampson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hampson was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zuri Coleman, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Jeanette Thompson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Potomac Senior was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gar-Field only posted a batting average of .211.
Meanwhile, Freedom got the win against Park View on Tuesday by a conclusive 25-4. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.
Chloe Fisher was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, seven stolen bases, and five runs. She also put up four RBI, which were her first of the season. Aniyah Rutledge was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with ten stolen bases and four runs.
Potomac Senior picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-6. As for Freedom, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Potomac Senior has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Freedom struggles in that department as they've been averaging 16.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Potomac Senior took their victory against Freedom in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
