Baseball Recap: Somerset Has No Trouble Against Pearsall

Somerset had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Pearsall on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Mavericks. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Nick Flores made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Somerset: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 8-10 otherwise. Flores was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Somerset got a massive performance out of Josiah Gonzales, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Gonzales a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blake Menchaca, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2.

Somerset always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Somerset has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pearsall, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with the loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Somerset will host Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pearsall, they will welcome San Antonio HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
