The Plainfield East Bengals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell to Joliet West 70-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (56), Plainfield East still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Plainfield East still got an impressive performance from Lexi Sepulveda, who scored 47 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Sepulveda scored a full 73.4% of Plainfield East's points, the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Jenkins, who scored seven points.
It was another big night for Makayla Chism, who scored 21 points for Joliet West. That's the first time this season that Chism scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Maziah Shelton, who scored 14 points.
Plainfield East's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Joliet West, their victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-5.
Plainfield East will face off against Romeoville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Romeoville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Plainfield East in Illinois (Romeoville is ranked 62nd, while Plainfield East is ranked 357th). As for Joliet West, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Plainfield Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plainfield Central is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
