Pearl-Cohn (Nashville, Tenn.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 14 in Tennessee, but was stunned by
Giles County (Pulaski, Tenn.), 23-7. Giles County was ranked at No. 57 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Tennessee coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a
Brandon Houston touchdown run in the first quarter, the Bobcats led 14-7 at the half.
Giles County grew its lead to nine points entering the fourth quarter. GC's lone score in the quarter came on a safety.
The loss snapped Pearl-Cohn's seven-game winning streak.
Pearl-Cohn's only touchdown came on a 60-yard run by
Caleb McLamb in the first quarter.
Coming into the game the Pulaski school had allowed 23.3 points per game this year. The Bobcats held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Firebirds well below the 41.5 points it had been averaging per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Pearl-Cohn, which notched a 30-14 victory over Maplewood in its previous outing. The win brought Giles County's winning streak to four games.
