Baseball Recap: Ridgecroft Has No Trouble Against Columbia

Ridgecroft saw some tournament action on Monday. They blew past the Columbia Wildcats 7-1. Considering the Rams have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ridgecroft's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ben Francis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Francis is becoming a predictor of the Rams' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

The victory made it two in a row for Ridgecroft and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Columbia, they dropped their record down to 6-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Ridgecroft wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-0 victory against Bethel Assembly Christian Academy on the 22nd. As for Columbia, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cape Hatteras at 5:00 p.m. on May 1. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hurricanes have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
