Bucktail is 1-9 against Millville since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bucks will head out to challenge the Quakers at 4:30 p.m. Bucktail has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bucktail is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Benton, falling 17-8.
Keller Friese put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Gavin Pick made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Gary Whipp also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Millville hadn't beaten Muncy on the road since April 20, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Quakers put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 19-4 win. Considering the Quakers have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Millville let Gunner Sternhagen and Dylan Brokenshire run wild. Sternhagen scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Brokenshire scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Shane Johnson, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Millville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Bucktail, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bucktail has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Millville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bucktail might still be hurting after the 23-3 defeat they got from Millville when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bucks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
