The Burges Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Jefferson Silver Foxes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Burges' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
On Wednesday, Burges needed a bit of extra time to put away Chapin. They walked away with a 13-9 win over the Huskies.
Yoselin Chavira was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-6. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Angelina Alvarez, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.
Chavira wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Burges kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Jefferson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Andress 10-0 on Wednesday. The Silver Foxes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Yazmeen De La Paz was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. De La Paz was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabella Qui?onez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Luz Ayala also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
The victory snapped Jefferson's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-14 record. As for Burges, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-13 record this season.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Burges has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .552. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burges took their win against Jefferson in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 14-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
