After a string of seven wins, the Mead Mavericks's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to Chaparral. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the defeat, Mead had strong showings from Darby Haley, who scored 22 points, and Madi Clark, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Haley's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Gomez, who scored six points along with three steals.
Mead's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Chaparral, their victory was their third straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mead will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Longmont at 5:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Longmont's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Mead's offense will have their work cut out for Mead. Chaparral will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Westminster at 5:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
