If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Simmons. They will take on Coffeeville at home at 7:00 PM on Thursday. Coffeeville will need to watch out since Simmons have now posted big point totals in their last five contests.
Simmons ran circles around Leflore County last Friday, and the extra yardage (516 yards vs. 110 yards) paid off. Simmons blew past Leflore County 38-6. Not happy with the near-even 8-6 score at halftime, Simmons made a real splash in the second half.
Meanwhile, things haven't been easy for Coffeeville, and their contest last Friday only extended their streak of losses to three. They were given a punishing 0-50 loss at the hands of Brooks.
Simmons's victory lifted them to 7-0 while Coffeeville's defeat dropped them down to 1-6. In their win, Simmons relied heavily on senior Tyderius Gipson, who passed for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns. Coffeeville will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
