The Earlville Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Ashton-Franklin Center Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Earlville is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
Last Monday, Earlville was beaten by the Huskers 53-18. Earlville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-10.
Despite the loss, Earlville saw an underclassman step up: Elizabeth Vazquez scored six points. Another player making a difference was Addie Scherer, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Ashton-Franklin Center unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Orangeville. While losing is never fun, Ashton-Franklin Center can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Broncos are ranked 51st).
Earlville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Ashton-Franklin Center, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-9.
Earlville didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Raiders in their previous meeting back in January of 2020, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Earlville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
