The Old Fort Stockaders are taking a road trip to face off against the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Old Fort is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Old Fort didn't have quite enough to beat Mohawk and fell 7-6. The Stockaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Harry King was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. King was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
King wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andrew tackett, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hopewell-Loudon got themselves on the board against New Riegel on Wednesday, but New Riegel never followed suit. They came out on top against the Blue Jackets by a score of 4-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chieftains.
The result came thanks to Kellen Frankart's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jack Colatruglio was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Austin Smith also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Hopewell-Loudon pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Old Fort, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Old Fort has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hopewell-Loudon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Old Fort suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Hopewell-Loudon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Stockaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
