The Yulee Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Middleburg Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Yulee's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-0 margin over Eagle's View. Considering the Hornets have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sierra McCoy and Theresa Robertson made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, McCoy tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Robertson kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits McCoy has allowed since back in April of 2024. At bat, McCoy scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Robertson went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two hits gave McCoy a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Sawyer was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Peyton Tharp was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Yulee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eagle's View only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Middleburg had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Indians as they made off with a 7-1 victory. Considering the Broncos have won four games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Bayleigh Girgis, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emma Ward, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Middleburg's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Yulee, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1-1.
