If the Garinger Wildcats were riding high off their 67-37 takedown of the East Mecklenburg Eagles on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Garinger took a serious blow against Independence on Friday, falling 73-25. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Garinger has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Garinger saw an underclassman step up: Imonee Patterson scored four points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Raziah Mitchell, who scored ten points.
Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylee Carson, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Carson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Moss, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Garinger's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Independence, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Garinger will be home for the holidays to greet Porter Ridge at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Porter Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. Independence won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Millbrook at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. Millbrook will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 461st, while Independence is ranked sixth).
