Even though the Stratford Spartans have not done well against the Maplewood Panthers recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Stratford came out on top against Maplewood by a score of 58-46. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Stratford also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Stratford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taniya Roberts led the charge by scoring 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Leonna Summers, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Stratford and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Maplewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Stratford will head out on the road to face off against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet and Stratford are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Maplewood, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Whites Creek at 7:30 p.m. on November 28th.
