It was a good run, but the Wayne County Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 67-60 to Marion County. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Wayne County's loss came despite strong showings from Justice Bell and Cayman Camfield. Bell scored 27 points along with nine rebounds, while Camfield dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 36.7% of Wayne County's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sayler Skelton, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wayne County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marion County only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Marion County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joe Aldridge, who scored 20 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Philip Wilson, who scored eight points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Wayne County's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Marion County, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Wayne County will head out on the road to face off against Collinwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Collinwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Wayne County is ranked 152nd). Marion County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Brilliant at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th. Brilliant is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
