The Wickliffe Blue Devils will face off against the Lake Catholic Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wickliffe will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Wickliffe's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Kirtland. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Audrey Musgrave and Abby Sulyok did most of the damage at the plate: Musgrave got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Sulyok went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Rusnak, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wickliffe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Lake Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They came up short against North, falling 12-0.
Lake Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cailyn Forkins, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Forkins' first of the season.
Lake Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Wickliffe, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
Lake Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wickliffe has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Lake Catholic, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Wickliffe's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
