Baseball Game Preview: South Holt Knights vs. North Nodaway Mustangs

For the first time this season, South Holt will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the North Nodaway Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Holt has four straight victories, North Nodaway has 25 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

South Holt is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Penney, sneaking past 10-8.

Cole Medsker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, South Holt let River Cotton and Will Jackson run wild. Cotton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Jackson scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. Those two runs gave Cotton a new career-high. Tayte Prussman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.

Meanwhile, North Nodaway fell victim to Osborn and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 14-0 to the Wildcats, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

South Holt pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for North Nodaway, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

South Holt took their victory against North Nodaway in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
