This season hasn't been kind to The Athens Christian Eagles, who are still winless after their eighth game. They were dealt a 38-0 defeat at the hands of Rabun County on Friday. While losing is never fun, Athens Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 458th, while Rabun County is ranked 115th).
Athens Christian's loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-2 Elbert County and 7-2 Strong Rock Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.7% over those games). As for Rabun County, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens Christian will challenge Elbert County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Rabun County, they will head out on the road to face off against Commerce at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Commerce is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
