Football Recap: Lincoln North Star Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lincoln North Star can now relate to. They and the Papillion-LaVista South Titans were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but they suffered a 23-22 loss. The Navigators' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Lincoln North Star still got an impressive performance from Tyrell Chatman, who rushed for 82 yards and three scores on only eight carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. Chatman's longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

While Lincoln North Star came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Papillion-LaVista South: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 47.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Chatman and Joshua Anderson, who each logged one passes deflected. Lincoln North Star hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.5 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Papillion-LaVista South was led to victory by Grant Beckenhauer and Chester Mendoza. Beckenhauer rushed for 16 yards and a pair of TDs, while Mendoza rushed for 81 yards. Beckenhauer also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making six total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

Lincoln North Star's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Papillion-LaVista South, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-1.

Lincoln North Star does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Papillion-LaVista South, they will host Millard North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Derek Jones and Isaiah Traylor.
