Berean Christian hasn't had much luck against Northgate recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will take on the Broncos at 5:00 p.m. Berean Christian will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Berean Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Salesian College Preparatory, sneaking past 6-5. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Alissa Jones and Leila Rhoads did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Rhoads went 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Kundysek, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Berean Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Northgate earned a 7-4 victory over Pinole Valley on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Broncos have won by exactly three runs.
Ashley Herman made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Herman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Baxter, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Jillian Neil was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Northgate has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Berean Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Berean Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Northgate struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berean Christian might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Northgate in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
