Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Croatan

Croatan never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Northside - Jacksonville Monarchs. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.

Madison Denson made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Wyndham Fenton and Makenzie Gilbert did most of the damage at the plate: Fenton went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Gilbert went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those stolen bases were Fenton's first of the season. Madisyn Willis was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Croatan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .833. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Croatan, bringing their record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Northside - Jacksonville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Croatan will face off against rival Richlands at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Northside - Jacksonville is set to challenge their familiar foe West Carteret at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
