Freeburg is a perfect 8-0 against East Alton-Wood River since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Midgets will host the Oilers at 3:30 p.m.
Freeburg will face East Alton-Wood River after dropping another heartbreaker against O'Fallon on Monday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Midgets came up short against the Panthers, falling 11-1. The Midgets haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Freeburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Miller, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, East Alton-Wood River can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over East St. Louis.
Drake Champlin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for East Alton-Wood River: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-13 otherwise. Champlin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Camden Seibert was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. East Alton-Wood River is 4-1 when Seibert posts two or more runs, but 3-13 otherwise.
East Alton-Wood River's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Freeburg, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
East Alton-Wood River's pitching crew better be locked in on Tuesday. Freeburg hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. It's a different story for East Alton-Wood River, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Freeburg in the park?
