On Wednesday, Loomis Chaffee School got the win against Taft School by a conclusive 20-1. The Pelicans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Victoria Budarz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Budarz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Loomis Chaffee School got a massive performance out of Solen Trainor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that Trainor has hit this season. Larkyn Domer-Shank was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Loomis Chaffee School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taft School only posted an OBP of .133.
Suffield Academy hit Cheshire Academy with a nine-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cats came up short against the Tigers, falling 13-1. The game marked the Cats' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Cheshire Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was T Ferraiolo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Ferraiolo has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another was K Durkin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Loomis Chaffee School's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Cheshire Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Cheshire Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Loomis Chaffee School has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Cheshire Academy, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Loomis Chaffee School's sizable advantage in that area, the Cats will need to find a way to close that gap.
