Baseball Recap: Stafford Has No Trouble Against Royal

Stafford got themselves on the board against Royal on Friday, but Royal never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Maxwell Frels was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Stafford is undefeated when Frels posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Josh Myers and Zachary Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Myers scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Brown went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Greyson Frels, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Stafford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Stafford and bumps their season record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Royal, they dropped their record down to 5-10-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.
