Wayne is 1-9 against Palmyra-Macedon since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Eagles will host the Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Wayne has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Wayne didn't have quite enough to beat Waterloo and fell 2-1. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Meanwhile, Palmyra-Macedon waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let Hornell get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering Palmyra-Macedon has won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Tino LoPresto's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Camron Quick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trey Porpora, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Palmyra-Macedon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hornell only posted a batting average of .150.
Palmyra-Macedon pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Wayne, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wayne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Palmyra-Macedon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wayne beat Palmyra-Macedon 8-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Red Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
