The La Marque Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 60-20 defeat at the hands of Iowa Colony. While losing is never fun, La Marque can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1318th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 368th).
Iowa Colony found their leader in underclassman Janyha Johnson, who scored 17 points along with eight steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
La Marque's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Iowa Colony, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-8.
La Marque will be playing at home against Columbia at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbia is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Iowa Colony, they will head out on the road to face off against Brazosport at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Brazosport is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
