The Lincoln Academy Eagles will face off against the Belfast Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lincoln Academy has struggled recently with ten defeats in a row, while Belfast will arrive with four straight victories.
Lincoln Academy fell victim to Cony and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Rams.
Lincoln Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Grady, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Belfast). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Winslow a 12-0 shutout on Monday. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Hayden Brimer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Colton Luce was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Belfast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Belfast pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lincoln Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Belfast struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lincoln Academy skirted past Belfast 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
