If the Crest Lancers were riding high off their 80-7 takedown of the Southern Coffey County Titans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Crest fell just short of Erie by a score of 45-42. Crest has not had much luck with Erie recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Crest had strong showings from Ryan Golden, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds, and Jacob Zimmerman, who scored 12 points. Rogan Weir was another key contributor, scoring two points along with three steals.
Crest struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Erie pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Ethan Dillinger was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Another player making a difference was Reid Duff, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Crest's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Erie, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Crest will head out on the road to face off against Humboldt at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Humboldt presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Crest in Kansas (Humboldt is ranked 43rd, while Crest is ranked 182nd). As for Erie, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Uniontown at 6:00 p.m.
