Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheatmore to victory, but perhaps none more so than Parker Kines, who went 7 for 14 to rack up 20 points along with five assists and three steals. Kines' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Weston Driggers, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points in addition to five boards and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Providence Grove came up short against Williams on Monday and fell 71-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (61), the Patriots still had to take the loss.
Wheatmore will need to focus on slowing down Andrew Thomas, one of several Providence Grove players who made an impact when they last played. He went 9 for 16 en route to 21 points. That was a full 33.9% of Providence Grove's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Stephen Beeson, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Providence Grove and nudges their season record down to 10-12. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 45.5% in those games and 26% outside of them. As for Wheatmore, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wheatmore has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 23.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Providence Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
