The Albemarle Bulldogs will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Union Academy Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Union Academy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Albemarle, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Albemarle didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Mount Pleasant, but they still walked away with a 26-21 victory.
Albemarle relied on the efforts of Kaine Mclendon, who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown, and Malik Watkins, who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Albemarle's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Tyquan McDonald.
Meanwhile, Union Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Lake Norman Charter 48-7.
Albemarle is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season. As for Union Academy, their loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Albemarle against Union Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 34-0 win. Will Albemarle repeat their success, or does Union Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
