The Trinidad Miners's game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 32-29 win over Sierra Grande. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Trinidad has posted yet this season.
Trinidad was led to victory by Monserrad Viera Flores and Danica Shipley. Viera Flores dropped a double-double on ten points and ten steals, while Shipley scored 17 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shipley has scored all season.
Jaylyn Quezada and Alexandra Garcia certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Quezada scored 11 points along with nine steals, while Garcia scored seven points along with three steals. Quezada hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Trinidad is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Sierra Grande, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.
Trinidad will be playing at home against Dolores Huerta Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sierra Grande, they will head out on the road to face off against Walsenburg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Walsenburg is on a four-game streak of home losses, Sierra Grande an eight-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
