Even though the Broomfield Eagles have not done well against the Fossil Ridge SaberCats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Broomfield walked away with a 46-33 victory over Fossil Ridge. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Broomfield did.
Broomfield was led to victory by Sydney Deem and Olivia Kim. Deem scored five points along with ten rebounds and nine blocks, while Kim scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. Kim has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Paige Gilpatrick, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Despite the defeat, Fossil Ridge saw an underclassman step up: Lauren Smith scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Gianna Leone was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Broomfield's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Fossil Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Broomfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Poudre at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Poudre focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday. As for Fossil Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Monarch at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Monarch has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
