Braddock is 8-2 against Varela since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Braddock Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Varela Vipers at 7:30 p.m. Braddock has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,373 points over their last 20 games.
Even though Cardinal Newman scored an imposing 63 points on Monday, Braddock still came out on top. Braddock escaped with a win against Cardinal Newman by the margin of a single free throw, 64-63.
Braddock's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angel Lara, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Hernandez, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Varela suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-42 loss at the hands of Mater Academy Charter. While losing is never fun, Varela can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 629th, while Mater Academy Charter is ranked 314th).
Braddock is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Varela, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Braddock took their win against Varela in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 60-37. Does Braddock have another victory up their sleeve, or will Varela turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
