The Sumner Spartans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 61-44 victory over Bellarmine Prep. Given Sumner's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Bellarmine Prep is ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sumner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lainee Houillon led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Houillon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played. Kawehi Borden was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Sumner pushed their record up to 14-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Bellarmine Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sumner will take on Lake Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Washington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Sumner likes a good challenge. As for Bellarmine Prep, they will be playing at home against Olympia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
