The Hilton Head Island Seahawks had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 57-24 victory over May River. The victory was just what Hilton Head Island needed coming off of a 66-45 loss in their prior contest.
Hilton Head Island was led to victory by Lawton Crose and Deja Godsun. Crose dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Godsun scored 18 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Crose pulled down eight or more rebounds. Leah Jackson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, May River still got an impressive performance from Brooke Dalton, who scored 16 points. Dalton hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, May River struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Hilton Head Island pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Hilton Head Island's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13. As for May River, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilton Head Island will take on James Island at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Island presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hilton Head Island in South Carolina (James Island is ranked 28th, while Hilton Head Island is ranked 124th). As for May River, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lucy Beckham at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Lucy Beckham and May River are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
