Basketball Game Preview: Charleston Collegiate Sundevils vs. Calhoun Academy Cavaliers

The Charleston Collegiate Sundevils are taking a road trip to take on the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday. Charleston Collegiate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season.

Charleston Collegiate fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Ragin Prep Christian Academy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to the Rams. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (60), the Sundevils still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Charleston Collegiate got top-tier performance from Thomas Reed, who went 11 of 22 en route to 33 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Reed's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Morrison, who posted seven points along with ten assists and four steals.

Meanwhile, Calhoun Academy strolled past Colleton Prep Academy with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 60-45. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cavaliers.

Charleston Collegiate better focus on containing Chase Strickland and Nick Lindsay as the pair were huge in Calhoun Academy's win. Strickland went 8 of 9 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals, while Lindsay dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Strickland continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Crews Felder, who had five points and five rebounds.

Calhoun Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Charleston Collegiate, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Charleston Collegiate has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Calhoun Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.8 rebounds.
